Les Arts Florissants & Amala Dianor Company

Barbican Hall, EC2Y 8DS , [Venue Details]

Blending a cappella singing with expressive movement, Gesualdo Passione crowns Paul Agnew and Les Arts Florissants' work on Carlo Gesualdo, in a modern creation by choreographer Amala Dianor.

Thursday,
16 Oct 2025
@7.30pm

Gesualdo is often remembered for the murder of his wife and her lover, but did this tragedy obscure his true passion - Faith? In 1611, before his death, he published Responsories for Holy Week, depicting Christ’s final moments in intricate polyphony. The depth of the subject inspired some of his most expressive music.

In this story of suffering and love, the body is central. Amala Dianor’s choreography fuses classical, contemporary, and hip hop styles, and mirrors the music’s contrasts. Six singers from Les Arts Florissants and four dancers from Compagnie Amala Dianor unite past and present in this unique stage creation.
